Introduction --------------- Crypteze 1.1 provides digital ID generation, file encryption, and secure file deletion for Microsoft Windows. A Crypteze generated digital ID can be used by Outlook Express and Outlook for encrypting and signing messages. Crypteze also provides optional file compression. Once you have installed Crypteze, you need to generate a digital ID (Tools menu) if you do not already have one or unless you only want to use password protection for encrypted files. Digital IDs can be managed (imported, exported, or deleted) using Microsoft's "Certificate Manager" (Tools menu). Within Certificate Manager, those digital IDs under "Personal" are yours and those under "Other People" belong to the people you communicate with. To use the digital ID with Outlook Express, you should only need to re-start Outlook Express. However, if the automatic configuration does not take place for Outlook Express, then within Outlook Express you will have to select the appropriate account (Tools menu; Accounts) and go to the "Security" tab. There you must select your digital ID's certifcate for signing and encrypting. To use the digital ID with Outlook, you will need to change the "Secure e-mail" settings (Tools menu; Options; Security; Settings/Change Settings). There you must select your digital ID's certifcate for signing and encrypting. ---------- 2. Known Issues --------------- Help May not Work ----------------- If you experience any problems with the Help feature of Crypteze, you may have to update Microsoft's "HTML Help" which is available at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/htmlhelp/html/hwmicrosofthtmlhelpdownloads.asp This problem may occur on systems with Internet Explorer 5. This problem may also be resolved by upgrading to Internet Explorer 6. Only 40-bit Encryption may be Available in Outlook Express ---------------------------------------------------------- If a recipient's certificate is imported into the address book via a certificate file, then the encryption capabilities of the recipient's system will not be known to Outlook Express. The default 40-bit encryption will be used. If a higher level of encryption is preferred then see Microsoft's Knowledge Base Article Q331488: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=331488
